It is with a very happy heart that I can say the corset is seeing a revival.

Period films keep rolling in to a theatre near you, burlesque has gone mainstream once more and the corset is right there along with them, sharing a moment in the spotlight.

But even with all of this well deserved attention, the corset remains taboo.

Think about it: have you tried wearing yours as an overpiece rather than an underpiece out in public? I have...and I can tell you that unless at a burlesque, fetish or goth event I received more than a few prudish glances of disapproval.

But why? An overbust corset with a sweet-heart bust covers more than the average flimsy camisole, no? Sure, perhaps we don't wear ours with a bra underneath, but it offers more support than the typical club-wear top does sans bra.

So why the fuss? Why the stares?

I'll tell you why: because for every inch of skin the corset conceals that is how much in equal parts a woman's femininity it reveals; exaggerates; accentuates.

No blouse can ever hope to define your waist the way your corset will. No bra will ever succeed at giving you the same lift, the same heave to your bosom.

So go ahead and tie one on ladies: but be prepared for all of the envious glares and lusty stares. You totally deserve both, you saucy minx!
