Burlesque's role in the revival of true glamour

Although it has never actually fallen off the map, burlesque certainly took a lengthy sabaticle from main stream for many many years. It is only in the recent past that it has found its way back into the media, back into mainstream.

Now, whereas I am a huge fan of tghe underground (I think there is a greater magic to things that are not known to everyone, and appreciated by a smaller and very loyal group of fans), burlesque is definitely one of my exceptions. Why? Because as a forever lover of all things glam, the revival of burlesque in the media's eye has also tremendously contributed to the revival of glamour. Modern fashions for a very long while now (I would say since the mid-90's) have always left me yawning. Everything went casusal. And for many, it remains so today.

The 'natural' look is still going strong. The 'dressed-down' look is completely accepted in the work place. Jeans are the norm when getting 'dressed-up' to go out...Bleh! These trends that are still today keeping a strong-hold over most everybody's wardrobe have left the rest of us feeling unsure if our outfits, hair-do's and make-up choices leave us looking 'over-done'.

Well, not anymore! Women like Dita von Teese, Michelle L'Amour and on a smaller more local scale, Scarlett James and Mlle Oui Oui Encore (if you don't know who these impressive ladies are, then look them up right now!) have shed a new light on true glamour. They've made it more than ok to add glitter to the face, dress in our favourite most girly dresses and put our diamonds on in broad daylight. These women leave us feeling like lesser freaks for shunning denim. They inspire us to try the winged liner and bright red lips that they wear so boldly. They've re-injected strength into our femininity and for that, I am eternally grateful.

How do you add glamour to your everyday look? I'm dying to know!
